Seasons – A Poem

I hate the summer

I hate the rash that makes my body swell with hives

I hate the stickiness of the air

I hate the saltiness of sweat

I hate the sun that burns my skin

I hate the concrete that scars my feet

I hate the sand that sticks to my body

I hate the ocean’s icy attack of waves

I hate the scorching fires that burn all that’s beautiful

I hate the mosquitoes that bite my skin every chance they get.

And I hate that it’s somehow always raining

I hate the heat

I love the winter

I love the chills it sends through my body

I love the dryness of the air

I love the saltiness of a runny nose

I love the sun that shines on the snow

I love the ice that spreads across the concrete

I love the snow that sticks to my skin

I love the wind’s howling attack

I love the freezing cold that burns like fire

I love the animal tracks I find left behind.

And I love that it’s somehow always snowing, but I’ve never felt so warm.

I love the cold
