Should You Watch Dune?

Dune is the story of Paul Atreides, a gifted boy born into a time he can barely begin to understand, who has to travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to guarantee the future of his family and his people. However, to accomplish this mission, he will have to conquer his fears and survive.

To me, this movie is very confusing, and figuring out the plot was very difficult. It was not clear what the point of the movie was, or where it was going while watching it. There seemed to be different “groups” of people, but it was hard for me to distinguish between them and oftentimes I had no idea what the characters were talking about. Furthermore, the scenes seemed relatively disconnected at times: one thing would happen in the first scene, and the next scene would be about something completely different. Also, it seemed like I needed prior knowledge to understand what was going on since the characters seemed to know something that was concealed to the audience.

Despite this, I did enjoy watching it. The visuals and cinematography in Dune are amazing. The color schemes and costume design are also breathtaking. It is definitely visually pleasing. The characters are interesting as well, and the actors and actresses who play them were amazing. Timothee Chalamet plays the lead role and, in my opinion, does a fantastic job. His parents in the movie, played by Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac, also play their roles with a lot of emotion, which could be appreciated by the audience. Zendaya, who was advertised with Chalamet as having a lead role, does not have a lead role after all. Her character only plays a small part and is in the movie for a very short amount of time. This was disappointing because of how she was shown in the trailer and how she was at the forefront of advertising.

Overall, I enjoyed watching the movie, but I think it would have been better if I understood what was going on and was able to appreciate the plot and action leading up to the ending. If you like breath-taking cinematography and spectacular acting, then you should consider watching Dune.
