McKenna: As someone who’s top artist this year was legitimately One Direction, I can’t use my top songs because most of them aren’t from 2020. But my favorite albums of 2020 were CALM by 5 Seconds of Summer (my favorite song is “High”), Walls by Louis Tomlinson, and folklore and evermore by Taylor Swift. My favorite songs of 2020 would have to be “Graceland Too” by Phoebe Bridgers and “chinatown” by Bleachers ft. Bruce Springsteen. Jack Antonoff owns my heart.
Holly: Taylor Swift owns 2020, her two albums, folklore and evermore, have single-handedly saved my year. It is extremely difficult to choose just one song from these brilliant albums but I would have to say that my favorite song from this year would be “Gold Rush.” This song is the definition of beautiful and gives me butterflies.
Hannah: Out of the many fantastic songs and albums to come out of 2020 choosing a favorite is extremely difficult. My favorite song would have to be either “this is me trying” from Taylor Swift’s gorgeous album folklore or, “Black and White” by Niall Horan. My favorite album of 2020 was simple for me to choose: the dreamy album Wonder by Shawn Mendes. Though rather controversial amongst Shawn Mendes fans the album has a song for every mood and every feeling that one may have.
May: My most listened to song this year was “Sofia” by Clairo, which actually came out last year in 2019. However, my favorite song of 2020 would have to be “champagne problems”, from Taylor Swift’s evermore.
Jenny: My favorite song to come out of 2020 is “Ungodly Hour”, the title track of Chloe x Halle’s most recent album. Their voices are just magic. The song is magic. Listen to it to get magic powers. Also up there is “12.38” by Childish Gambino, from his 2020 album 3.15.20. If the first song didn’t give you magic powers, this will do the trick.
Sarah: My favorite song of 2020 would have to be “Eugene” by Arlo Parks, an up and coming young artist who has already done several collaborations with artists and groups like MICHELLE. It was so hard to pick one favorite out of all the songs she released this year but I went with “Eugene” because it’s just such a beautiful story of yearning and friendship and I absolutely adore it. Not to mention her incredible vocals and beat! I could talk more about her music, but you should really just check it out for yourself because my words possibly do it justice.
Heather: The album I listened to the most this year was definitely Hamilton, but it was released in 2015. Pretty much all of the music I listen to is not from 2020, but I think my favorite 2020 song would have to be “Daisies” by Katy Perry, with “Diamonds” by Sam Smith coming in close behind it. Both songs just made me happy and made me want to get up and dance, which is something I definitely needed during the more trying times of this year.
