Make Every Second Count: BHS Girls XC Team Heads Into D1s

The Bedford girls cross country team has been clocking very impressive times as they move into D1s on Saturday, October 31st. The team currently has 3 girls under the 20:00 mark, including Junior, Nora Buxton, Freshman, Riley Moushegian, and Freshman, Kate Barwell. The team may not have a front runner after Mikita Barry, Class of 2026, graduated; however they do have a very tight pack this season.

The Bulldogs started their season off strong at Bobcat Invitational at DeMerrit Hill Farm on September 5, 2026 where they scored a total of 79 points which led them to a fourth place finish. A huge shoutout to the JV team who scored a perfect score, led by Madison Taylor who clocked a 25:14.13 early in the season. A week later, at the Nashua North Invite, the team scored a total of 169 points securing them a sixth place finish.

The team went into the Manchester Invitational on September 19th, the preview for D1s, with confidence, ready to face McIntyre Ski Hill. They came out very successful securing a 10th place finish (3rd NH) in the large school varsity field led by Nora Buxton who clocked a 21:15.5. NHXCTF stated, “Bedford showed excellent depth. The Bulldogs didn’t have a runner in the top 40, but Nora Buxton, Riley Moushegian, Kate Barwell, Julia Malnar and Grace Boll all finished between 21:16 and 22:07. That 51-second spread helped Bedford finish tenth with 294 points.”

On September 26th, the team faced the Black Bear Invitational in the rain and wind, although they totally conquered the course with success all around. On October 3, 2026, the team made their way to Alvirne High School, which brought beautiful conditions and even more PRs. The Hopkinton Festival on October 10th was a flat course which also allowed for spectacular times and the team moved up in the rankings.

The Pelham Invitational on October 17th gave the team one more chance to clock PRs in the regular season before championship season started. The team had a remarkable performance where Nora Buxton, Riley Moushegian, Kate Barwell and Julia Malnar all placed in the top 20. Overall, the team tied with Bishop Guertin scoring 66 points. The tie break went to the 6th place runner, Shelby Gibson who placed 31st and clocked 21:05.72. The JV team was also very successful, where Samantha Arp won the race clocking a 21:58.06 followed by teammates Abrielle Summers, Helena Shaheen, Clare Sweeney and Keira Kelly who all scored in the top 10.
