BHS String Orchestra

When you think of the music department, maybe the marching band or concert choir comes to mind. But, there’s another talented group you may not be aware of: the string orchestra. They may be small, but the string orchestra is full of dedicated musicians playing the violin, the viola, and piano. They’re spending this semester working hard on a variety of beautiful pieces, and they want you to hear! Come and listen to Bedford High School’s very own string orchestra at the music department’s concerts on October 27th and December 9th in the BHS Theater.

The string orchestra is a semester-long course, meaning these students are working hard to bring their best to the concerts, with only 11 students currently in the ensemble. When asked about the overall goals of string orchestra, director Mr. Bruneau says, “String Orchestra is in its third year of running at BHS. Our goal is to provide students who have any range of experience as a string player, or other musicians who want to make music as a string ensemble.” As the class only lasts one semester a year, there are hopes of expanding to a full-year course in the future.

When you head to see our BHS string orchestra, prepare for a journey through centuries of classical music and more. Mr. Bruneau adds, “[we] play music ranging from Bach and Mozart to The Legend of Zelda and Lord of the Rings. We hope that those who watch our performances see the emotion and hard work our students put into learning our music and putting it on stage.” Attending the concerts is one of the best ways to support our school’s music department. And you’re not just listening to the music—you’re hearing the passion and hours of practice these students have put towards the string orchestra.

If you play a string instrument, or you’re curious about picking one up, the string orchestra is the right place for you. New musicians are always welcome and we hope to see you join next year!
