Spring into Community – Spring 2026 at BHS

BHS is blooming with spring festivities! This spring, BHS has been a part of several spring events that have allowed students to spring into the season with BHS’s Springfest, and memorial day parade, being the biggest events.

On May 2nd Caroline Kemp hosted a successful Springfest fundraiser here at the school for her senior project. Her project was inspired by her childhood memories from Old Town Day. “I wanted to re-create that feeling for other kids,” says Kemp. Without a doubt, she did so successfully through fun activities such as face-painting and yard games. Everyone was extremely welcoming, and there was a very diverse array of booths, from homemade crafts to sourdough. Springfest featured businesses such as Bedford Martial Arts, Gear Up Bedford, Lindner Dental, and London Family Orthodontics. Lindner Dental had a claw machine where participants could try and win squishes shaped as teeth, and Bedford Martial Arts had a dummy you could punch to win coupons. In addition to local and widespread businesses, there were also several BHS clubs and activities. Bedford Crew had a booth where they were able to share their love for the sport, and inspire others to join. The non-profit organization Fueled by Kids had a booth where people got to pack bags for kids who do not have access to food on the weekends. Playa bowls also had a food truck, where attendees could buy smoothies and acai bowls. It was really nice to see the entire community unite and support each other. Everyone was very welcoming, and eager to show off their creations.

Community spirit grew over the weekend of May 16 and 17th during the Memorial Day parade, where students marched from the high school to McKelvie. The school band marched, and played their instruments. They displayed spirit, and patriotism. Baton throwers shared candy, and handed out stickers. They were a great example of community involvement, and spreading joy. Boy scouts also marched, as passerby cheered them on. Fueled by Kids swept through the streets, and dispersed business cards amongst the standers. Following the parade, there were vendors that gave out hot dogs, popsicles, and lemonade. The streets were bursting with community pride. It was an event where everyone was included, and brought something to the table. As the weather gets warmer, Bedford gets livelier.
