Course Selection and the Opportunities it Provides

We are well over halfway done with the school year. Summer is quickly approaching, but before we get into vacation, warm weather, and vacation, it is important to mark the end of another chapter. If you are someone who gets overwhelmed when thinking about the big picture, the future, your goals in life, it is easy to feel lost. There are so many options and opportunities offered at Bedford High School, which is a good thing, but can also be overwhelming. From Law and Ethics to Anthropology, there are options for everyone to find a class they love. It is important to remember that what works for one person might not work for another person. This is especially important for sophomores to keep in mind, as they choose whether or not to pursue the IB Diploma. Having these conversations with friends can be useful, but it is important not to base your decisions off of what your peers choose. Everyone has different goals in life, and we have to take advantage of these opportunities to do what is best for us. We are at the point in our lives where we must look within ourselves for answers, rather than to others. This may seem like bad news, but it can also be good news. Growing up, we would turn to the adults in our lives for advice and guidance. As we get older, we must get to know ourselves and make decisions that align with our own values. More than anything else, our choices define us. Having the power to make these choices is a privilege. We must take advantage of these privileges and opportunities that BHS provides us with. We have the resources. We must utilize them. As teenagers, we are still discovering who we are as people, and what we want to get out of our individual life experiences. No two journeys in life are the same. Making decisions that are best for you can enable success and a feeling of accomplishment.
