¡Viva Costa Rica! Intersession

As Bedford High School students we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in intersession trips the two days before April break. Opportunities range from on-campus activities to international trips. This year, BHS is offering several international trips including London/Brussels, France, Italy, and the Taiwan exchange program. The Costa Rica Service Adventure intersession is a new international opportunity that allows students to visit Costa Rica, and explore its culture and scenery. The trip is hosted by advisors Mrs. Durawa, Mrs Jacques, and Mrs. Lawrence. BHS is working with The Walking Tree travel, which is an educational travel organization that runs student trips, and educational opportunities in Costa Rica, to provide students with a valuable educational experience in Costa Rica. Students will also be staying with host families.

During the trip, students will get the opportunity to explore the gorgeous rural communities of Costa Rica. Students will get the chance to embark on thrilling adventures including ziplining, white water rafting, and swimming at white sand beaches, and the base of waterfalls. Students will also get the chance to be a part of Spanish culture, and practice the Spanish language. This is an extremely valuable experience for students enrolled in Spanish classes here at the high school, or for students who are interested in learning some Spanish as students will get the chance to talk with native speakers. Another important part of intersession is Real World Learning Hours. By participating in this incredible intersession, students will receive three career exploration and planning hours, eight cultural hours, and twenty community service, which means that by participating in this intersession students will meet all of their required community service opportunities.

Students should heavily consider the Costa Rica intersession if they are looking for an intersession experience full of adventure, service-oriented learning, and the opportunity to immerse themselves into the culture of Costa Rica. However, when deciding on this intersection students should be aware that the trip extends into April break, making it infeasible for fall athletes, or students planning personal travel.
