The winter season for sports is officially in full swing, and it is no surprise that the BHS athletes have all had an especially busy schedule since winter break has ended. Our athletes are now in the heart of their season and it is safe to say that the Bulldogs are ready to work hard and win. Here is what has happened in the world of BHS sports this past week…
Alpine Skiing: The boys and girls alpine team competed in a giant slalom (GS) and slalom (SL) race this past week against seven other schools. The top bulldog finishers for GS were Jessie Rioux and CJ Ladue, while the top finishers for SL were Mikey Akstain and Jessie Rioux.
Gymnastics: Bedford’s girls gymnastics team competed this Sunday at Salem against five other teams and came in a close second to Londonderry. The BHS girls scoring a total of 120.85 points, just four points shy of beating the winning Londonderry score of 124.85.
Boys Basketball: This past week the varsity boys played at home against Nashua North and Windham. The team walked away with a 73-66 defeat over North, and only a two point, buzzer beater, loss against Windham, resulting in a final score of 56-58.
Girls Basketball: The girls also took on Nashua North and Windham last week, defeating both teams in two high energized games. The final scores being 57-31 against North and 57-51 against Windham.
Boys Hockey: Boys Varsity has had a very busy schedule, playing games on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of last week. Monday, the team played Bow and secured a victory, ending in a 7-3 win for the bulldogs. Wednesday and Friday the team played two tough games against Bishop Guertin and Concord, facing some tough losses for the bulldogs. The final scores being 1-4 (Bishop Guertin) and 0-4 (Concord).
Girls Hockey: Girls Varsity faced Bishop Brady on Saturday at St.As and were defeated in a 0-6 loss for the bulldogs. Regardless of the loss, the girls never gave up and played with a hard effort.
Nordic: The Nordic team competed in a skate race last week out of the 14 teams, the girls team finishing in a solid 5th place while the boys secured a 7th place spot. The top 3 finishers for the girls team being Avery Manni, Maddie Beaton, and Jamie Karr. The top 3 finishers for the boys were Evan Kaplo, Jonathon Goedecke, and Nick Michaud.
Track: The boys and girls indoor track team competed at Phillips Exeter on Saturday and walked away with 3rd place overall for the boys and 2nd place overall for the girls. There were 11 teams competing, showing both teams had significant victories this weekend.
Unified: The unified basketball team took on Exeter last Thursday, and faced a close and competitive game but the bulldogs were defeated by the blue hawks in a 40-48 game.
Wrestling: The boys wrestling team competed in a match against Central on Wednesday and were successfully able to earn a victory for the bulldogs. The final score of the match was 46-33.
Swim and Dive: Last Sunday on the 5th, the Bedford Swim Team had a meet at UNH against other strong teams such as Oyster River High School and Exeter High School. Though neither the girls nor the boys won the meet, many swimmers ended the night with best times and a positive attitude. In addition, the only BHS diver, Alex Beakman, competed in diving at the meet and scored high.
